My hosting service 1&1 IONOS has advised the following:

We are writing to remind you that we are switching our platform completely to Secure FTP (SFTP). This will ensure that your data remains safe and secure. To give you more time to adapt, we will not be making the switch until 31.08.2024.

What does this mean for you?
Only secure and encrypted SFTP connections from and to IONOS webspaces will be permitted. An FTP connection will then be automatically rejected and will no longer be possible. Please make sure that the transfer program or applications you use only establish a secure connection with SFTP.

How does this affect OpenElement please?  I'm running v1.59R9

SFTP is an evolution of ftp.

OpenElement will not be able to publish directly on the host.

The workaround is to export to folder your site then to publish it using FileZilla

Project Tab => Export to folder.  This will produce a copy (publish) of your site ready for publishing on your drive.

Filezilla will be the tool to upload the copy to your host

In fact it's not ssl but sftp  witch is a newer version of ftp with encryption security.

Hosting companies may decide that the acceptable protocol is sftp for their services and disable ftp ont their servers.

Therefore users are forced to use sftp
.
