Hello oE Community.

Don't kill me for having this habit of waffling and over-typing!

Well, openElement is a great web editor. I've had a website for about twenty years - but the last editor was reporting errors - I think purely because it was so old and therefore out of date. I used Expression Web (2004) and before that FrontPage 2000. Expression Web also started to do annoying things with tables which I couldn't understand.

So, I started to look around and nearly bought WYSIWYG Web Editor 15 - despite finding it difficult to use during the trial. oE kept popping up among searches for 'best offline editors'. My style is WYSIWYG - but with access to code. This online only style using templates to create a site - it's just not my scene at all.

Free software is glorious - so thank you for oE. It reminds me of an entirely free 3D prog I use called Blender. The equivalent industry software is er, £1,800 a year. Yes, for one year. I can't afford to contribute to the development of oE, but I have two links on me little amateur site as a token of my appreciation.

I guess I'm very easily pleased, but I just love the 'center on horizontal' feature. Locking stuff bang in the middle? I need that! I also really like the interface - especially with the dark theme.

I found the idea of Code Blocks peculiar to begin with - but thinking about it, it's good to protect dummies like me from myself. If I completely mess up I can merely delete the block and restore things rather than the added code becoming lost among the main code. That's how I see it anyway.

Today I added HTML poster attributes to video players - so visitors are met with a frame from the video rather than an entirely black screen before hitting play.

I should have thought more about smartphones when deciding on the width of the page - but the site 'fits' in smartphone landscape mode - which is how it should be viewed given it's a video site. That said, given the videos are 1080HD - the larger the screen the better.

Don't expect whiz-bang bells and whistles. It's just a practical, simple design. A coder I am not. I'm certainly not here to promote my site - rather, it's all about saying thanks for the prog and maybe I can get answers to any problems I may encounter.

The problem with free software is that every one have good ideas on enhancement but nobodu want to put any money on it.  They want free and that's it.

If yu learn to use responsive techniques and tools you will be able to adapt the site to the media used to see it.

There is a button called edit media  for that

Quote So, I started to look around and nearly bought WYSIWYG Web Editor 15 - despite finding it difficult to use during the trial.

I tried that, too. I even bought a license. It was affordable.
After a few weeks I put it into the bin. Too many limitations, bottlenecks. Somehow uncomfortable to use.

I would also buy oE, or donate, but they denied a payment.
So, the only thing I can do, is to support this forum. And to use oE.
And to mention oE on my websites.

I guess, the supporter team is some crew of retired people (as I am), still doing a good job. Or at least try to. My knowledge about web design ist limited. But I managed oE.

What I would appreciate, is to have the source available, to fix some minor issues and a big bug.
I'm still pretty proficient in MS-VisualStudio (VC++, MFC).
This oE seems to be written in VisualBasic, which ist not a challenge for me.
I might hav a look in the source.

Still enough to do with my current website, added some 1000 images, but still 5000 on hold.

oE being free is neither here nor there. If I was willing to nearly pay over $50 for WYSIWYG Web Editor 15 - a program I didn't really like, I'm certainly willing to pay for a prog I do really like - such as oE. It's what is right for the user - free or paid. I didn't set out looking for free - I set out looking for the best offline WYSIWYG editor that's user friendly.

I'm currently paying Adobe £40 a month for After Effects and Premiere Pro. So, the notion that I scour the web for free software... nope. I HAVE to have After Effects, but I don't have to have Premiere Pro. I could switch to HitFilm video editor which has a free option, but I choose to pay for Premiere because it's what I want to use.

If oE announced they cannot continue to provide for free - I'll be right there buying my access code.

oE just feels right to me. I can work it with my limited skills.
