    Posted: Apr 24 2022 at 9:00pm
Hi,

Recently when I try to publish to web, it shows "550 SSL/TLS required on the control channel" and cannot get connected with the server. I used to published the web several times with this server and this problem never appeared before, but I did not change any settings on OE. What settings should I check or change right now?

Here is the detail it shows:

220 FTP Server ready.
USER *******
550 Richiesto SSL/TLS sul canale di controllo
FtpReplyException : Richiesto SSL/TLS sul canale di controllo (reply code 550)
Disconnected from server
QUIT
550 Richiesto SSL/TLS sul canale di controllo
Either the file or folder does not exist on your FTP server, or you do not have sufficient rights.

I appreciate your help!

Hi,

Thank you for kind reply!
yes they did change some settings but I don't know what it is exactly. But right now I can only access to this FTP server using explicit SSL (auto SSL). In this case, is there anything I can do with OE?

SSL doesn't work with OE.
Put (Export to Folder) the result to the local file, and just transfer that with filezilla.

Anyway, is it really necesssary to use SSL?

The exported result is put to

and that can not be changed.
Subsequent versions will have a 'numbered name'.

Hello Felicia,

Thanks for posting your question on this forum.

It looks like you use to speak italian,  considering that I use to speak french, we may have an interresting conversation here.  Wink

The way I understand your message:

550 Richiesto SSL/TLS sul canale di controllo
FtpReplyException : Richiesto SSL/TLS sul canale di controllo (reply code 550)

It looks like the publishing configuration default directory is not available on your server.

Go to Project Tab, Preferences, Publishing, configuration and ensure that the default directory correspond to your host setup.

Bonjour! :)

According to your suggestion, I changed my setting as below:

But it still doesn't work so I was wondering if I made the correct change. Could you please take a look at my settings? Merci!

Hi! Thank you for your reply!
Sorry I don't fully understand your suggestions. Do you mean set up a new FTP server by FileZilla and then use the new one? Thanks again!

You may ask to your hosting services provider the exact folder name that has to be used.  There is no way I can guess he answer without direct access to it.

If you use FileZilla to reach the remote drive you should be abe to see it.  Filezilla is free ans available here: https://filezilla-project.org/

"Sorry I don't fully understand your suggestions. Do you mean set up a new FTP server by FileZilla and then use the new one? Thanks again!"

You may use ANY server, who utilizes SFTP.
The server has to play that game; but not all do so - or o they want to be paid for.
This ist why I asked, whether the SSL is reqired at all.

The locally created website (Eport to Folder) is exactly the same as the one, transferred with the integrated tool of OE.
Therefore, you may run (and check) that local version completely off the local folder with any browser, before transferring it to the server.

Well, on huge websites as mine (25 GB) it is not recommended to use Export to Folder, since it would take  a considering long time to Export to Folder.

So, if your server does not support SSL, use simple FTP,
which is incoporated in OE.

@digizar

My suggestion is to use Filezilla to verify the exact path of the host proper directory.

My assumption is that the error mentionned by Felicia points to the fact that current publishing configuration leads to the wrong directory.  Therefore she is receiving the following eror:

550 Richiesto SSL/TLS sul canale di controllo
Either the file or folder does not exist on your FTP server, or you do not have sufficient rights.

@ Felicia

If you have access to CPanel, an alternate approach would be to use it to look at your domain list to find your domain's root directory
